I’ll go ahead and admit it: I am a huge mascara junky. I have at least one in my backpack, purse, and glove compartment at all times. So it should come as no surprise that the main beauty product I buy is…. mascara! After realizing I was running low, I went on a Kroger run early this week and picked up a new Maybelline product.
As you can probably tell by the brand name, this mascara is supposed to all about the volume. However, the combination of their first gel-mousse mascara formula and the far too flexible brush really detract from my expectations of this Maybelline product. Before I had even applied the mascara, I noticed the applicator was bending at the slightest touch — I was afraid it was going to bounce back and forth and hit me in the eye! The brush is fairly wobbly during application, and the formula appears to be best for definition, not volume. Unlike gel eyeliner, gel mascara does not make a dramatic pigment statement. However, because of its hybrid formula, I had absolutely no problems with flaking during a full day’s wear!
My review of the product: the combination of unstable brush and lack-lust formula leaves a great deal to be desired in volume, but is great for definition for a “lighter” makeup look — if you’re brave enough to use it! For now, I’ll be sticking with what remains of my Mary Kay Waterproof Mascara ($10).
