It’s feeling like fall! For this mani, I wanted to go for a deeper green to pay homage to the color of the year (Emerald), while still keeping it fun and autumn appropriate. Here’s what I came up with that’s subtle enough to wear to work, yet fun enough to feel like you dressed up for a night out:
Orly Sparkling Garbage + essie Stylenomics
Taken indoors under artificial lighting, the glint of Sparkling Garbage really brings out the green undertones of Stylenomics (even though it’s difficult to see in this picture). I applied two coats of Stylesnomics on all nails, two coats of Sparkling Garbage on my accent nails, and finally one top coat.
I love this color combination and, with any luck and hopefully very few dishes to wash, am looking forward to rocking it for awhile. Look at some of the other great designs people have come up with to compliment the unique shade of Sparkling Garbage below:

Time for some more mani fun! After drooling over some gorgeous Tiffany’s jewelry, I was inspired to create a mint/teal nail design. While I don’t have China Glaze For Audrey (although I have been eyeing it for awhile…), I do have essie Mint Candy Apple, and so that’s what I went with and I absolutely adore it!

A little sloppy, I know, but I forgot to take a picture after clean up! This picture was taken indoors in artificial lighting with two coats of polish and a top coat, although it remains pretty true to color. I love how the little polka dots add some visual interest for a mid-week pick me up! I always get tons of compliments whenever I wear this color, and it lasted until I took it off over a week later! Try it out for yourself and check out what other crafty designs lacqueristas have done with this polish below:

Fall is finally in the air and I’m ready for autumn nail polishes! While some brands tend to go for a bright fall look (like Butter London’s Fall 2013 collection), essie sticks to the classical fall palette of muted jewel-tones and neutrals that it knows best. These colors are perfect for the September transition into fall, with enough variety to set them apart from summer shades.
essie Fall 2013 Collection
Here’s how essie is advertising the colors:
- After School Boy Blazer- academy blue-black
- Cashmere Bathrobe- true flannel gray
- For the Twill of It- rich medium brown with reflective green shimmer
- The Lace is On- glistening jewel toned pearlescent fuchsia
- Twin Sweater Set- vibrant crimson red
- Vested Interest- cool gray teal
While the palette remains roughly the same as last year’s collection (below), there is enough variety to warrant picking up a few of the shades for fall 2013. Continue reading
Yay, it’s finally September! Autumn is my absolute favorite season — I love the mix of bright and dark colors, they lend themselves to such unique outfits and accessories. Thankfully, Butter London has released their new Fall 2013 collection, and it embraces the more colorful side of the season.

I picked up one of the shades, Pimms (the bright, true yellow) a few weeks ago and have been wearing it ever since! Unfortunately, I have been really negligent about taking photos of my manis recently, but in the meantime check out this pic for an example of Pimms’s true coloring:

Try this bright yellow by itself or add some other colors to your design for a bright, colorful mani like the ones below:

Yay! A Sephora sale, and for nail polish! Their own polish line, SEPHORA by OPI, is now on sale 3 for $10! If you’re a fan of their line, snatch up colors while you can, as this line is being fazed out for good and replaced with another.
Announced in late June, the new line — Formula X — will feature more than 200 polishes and care products. It launches in September and will retail for $10.50 -$12.50 (with treatments up to $14).
Of the many treatments they will offer, one is The System Kit (pictured below). It features an all-in-one manicure set that includes Nail Cleanser (Cleanse), Base Coat (Prime), and Top Coat (Shine), shown left to right. Also shown is a new shade called Invincible, which looks to be an amazing nude on any skin color.
Are you excited for Sephora’s new Formula X line? Will you miss SEPHORA by OPI? What other colors or treatments do you hope to see this September? Let me know in the comments below!
Yay it’s August! To celebrate, I wanted to share my favorite nail polish that I’ve worn over and over again in the past few weeks — essie Shine of the Times! It was introduced in essie’s Holiday 2011 Luxeffects Collection (see swatches of the other polishes in the collection here!), and has since been continued. I’ve read a few posts online about lucky ducks who manage to find a discounted bottle in their local drugstore, but for the most part you have to buy this “endangered species” online. If you’re even remotely into glitter or “flakie” (irregularly sized, iridescent glitter) polishes, then this is your nail Mecca!

While it gives a textured look, Shine of the Times applies and dries super smoothly. Sadly, try as I might, my camera could not fully capture the gorgeous colors the polish reflects. The flakes are sometimes a pinky-peach, gold, and bright green all at the same time! Here are some more examples to give you an idea of this polish’s diversity:

What colors are your August favorites? Would you try out essie Shine of the Times? Do you love or hate flakie nail polishes?
